Julie Mehretu is an Ethiopian-American artist born in Addis Ababa in 1970. She creates monumental abstract canvases mapping invisible forces of migration, capitalism, and geopolitical power. MacArthur Fellow (2005). Major retrospective at the Whitney Museum in 2021.
