Exhibition Highlights

Welcome to Saul Steinberg, Artist, an exploration of the imaginative world of a creator who truly broke the mold. Saul Steinberg (1914–1999) is perhaps best known for the witty, insightful drawings that graced the covers and pages of The New Yorker for nearly sixty years. Through this long partnership, his work became a staple in homes across America, gently nudging people to rethink their perspective on society.

Steinberg famously described himself as “a writer who draws.” His art doesn’t stick to any one lane; instead, it playfully blurs the lines between drawing, writing, and storytelling. While his style is impossible to categorize, it is instantly recognizable and full of hidden depths. In this exhibition, you will encounter his unique visual language through a wide variety of works, including drawings, paintings, collages, sculptures, photographs, and even films.

The exhibition is organized by theme, offering a look at how different parts of Steinberg’s life and art connected over the years. This selection is based on the first major retrospective of his work in Spain, organized by the Fundación Juan March in Madrid with the essential support of the Saul Steinberg Foundation. We invite you to step inside and discover the many layers of Steinberg’s creative universe.
