Anselm Kiefer

Meet the artist

Exhibition Highlights
CAHH is delighted to welcome world-renowned German artist Anselm Kiefer to Valencia for his very first exhibition in the city. This isn’t just any show—it’s a unique experience designed in close collaboration with the artist himself. To make room for this extraordinary journey, the centre had reimagined six galleries, creating a dedicated space for one of the most influential creative voices of our time.
This exhibition is a celebration of a decade-long friendship. It all began nearly ten years ago when Hortensia Herrero acquired the evocative painting “The Flowers of Evil” from the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition in London. You can still find this piece in the main hall, where it sits alongside two other permanent works by Kiefer that have become heart of our center.
To bring this vision to life, Hortensia Herrero personally visited Kiefer at his studios in Barjac and Paris. Together, they hand-picked the selection of works coming to Valencia, ensuring each piece tells a part of the story they wanted to share with you.
Open through October 2026, the exhibition invites you to explore Kiefer’s fascination with nature. Through his eyes, landscapes become a gateway to history, mythology, and literature—the core inspirations that drive his powerful work.
The undisputed star of the show is “Danaë,” a breathtaking piece stretching over thirteen meters wide. In this monumental work, Kiefer blends the modern architecture of Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport with the ancient myth of Danaë, depicted as a shimmering rain of gold falling across the canvas. Having only been shown once before in New York in 2022, this is a rare opportunity to see this masterpiece on European soil for the very first time.
