Ayako Rokkaku

Welcome Ayako Rokkaku (Tokyo, 1982) back to KÖNIG GALERIE for her fourth solo exhibition, SCENERY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING FORMED.

Hosted in the Nave of St. Agnes, this show features a vibrant collection of sculptures alongside a new series of paintings. The exhibition follows Ayako’s journey through different places and moods, showing us how beauty and form gradually emerge through the work of her own hands.

This body of work reflects how Ayako lets the world around her—from the unique light of a new city to the rhythm of the coast—soak into her daily life. Rather than using traditional tools, she works with a direct, tactile touch: spreading paint with her palms, shaping clay, sewing fabrics piece by piece, and guiding glass with her fingertips. Each piece feels immediate and alive, growing at its own pace like a quiet emotion slowly coming to the surface.
