Contemporary Art, PhotoExhibition Highlights
Meet Denise Scott Brown, one of the most influential architects of our time. Born in Zambia in 1931, her life has been a journey of travel, photography, and activism, with a career shaped by her studies in Johannesburg, London, and Rome.
Denise is perhaps best known for the 1972 book Learning from Las Vegas, which she co-wrote with her husband Robert Venturi and Steven Izenour. This wasn't just a book about buildings; it was a revolution that invited the energy of American pop culture and car culture into the world of architecture.
For many years, Denise’s brilliance was often overlooked, relegated to the shadows of her partner’s career. This exhibition finally puts her in the spotlight, celebrating her bold, art-inspired ideas that have shaped the way we think about design from the late 20th century to today.
As her first major solo retrospective, this show offers an intimate look at her life and work. You’ll see around twenty artworks and pieces of furniture from her own private collection, featuring legendary artists like Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and Roy Lichtenstein.
