Exhibition Highlights

217 paintings, 178 sculptures, 9 textiles, 4 ceramics, some 8,000 drawings and almost all his prints

The Fundació Joan Miró, Centre for Contemporary Art Studies, was created with the aim of bringing art closer to the people, thereby making the work of Joan Miró coexist with exhibitions of contemporary and emerging art. Containing an important selection of Miró’s works spanning his entire career, The Collection is currently on display in rooms designed by Josep Lluís Sert that highlight the dialogue between the work, the natural environment and the architectural space. Walking through the Fundació’s interior and exterior spaces enables visitors not only to approach Miró’s work in a unique way, but also to generate completely new experiences.

The Collection exhibition is divided into different themes that highlight two of Miró’s essential traits: identification with Catalan land and culture and the need to constantly re-examine himself through a permanent dialogue with the avant-garde. Both traits allow the artist’s work to transcend the individual sphere and become universal.
