Exhibition Highlights

We invite you to visit Gagosian at 522 West 21st Street to experience two striking new sculptures by Michael Heizer: Convoluted Line A and Convoluted Line B (2024). Alongside these massive works, we are showing a selection of the artist’s early drawings that reveal the roots of his vision.

These sculptures represent the latest chapter in a creative journey that began in the 1960s, when Heizer first started making his legendary outdoor art in the deserts of Nevada and California.

These "negative line" sculptures consist of winding steel ribbons set directly into a raised concrete floor. While they have the delicate feel of a hand-drawn sketch, they are built on a monumental scale. Stretching over 87 feet across the gallery, the two pieces work together to transform the room into an immersive environment. We encourage you to walk through the space and experience these powerful, flowing forms for yourself.

As long as you’re going to make a sculpture, why not make one that competes with a 747, or the Empire State Building, or the Golden Gate Bridge?
