The New Museum in New York City is a leading contemporary art museum known for showcasing innovative and boundary-pushing work by emerging and underrepresented artists.

Founded in 1977, it is located in a striking, stacked-box building on the Bowery, designed by the architects SANAA.

The museum is dedicated to new ideas in art and culture, often presenting experimental exhibitions, thought-provoking programs, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The New Museum, with its striking stacked-box design rising above the Bowery, is a bold symbol of contemporary art in New York. Its architecture is as avant-garde as the works displayed within. Edgy yet sincere, the museum embraces innovation while challenging conventions. Beyond its groundbreaking exhibitions, it offers a diverse array of events, from readings and performances to trivia nights and unconventional programs that push artistic boundaries.

In fall 2025, the New Museum in New York City will reveal a major expansion, featuring a 60,000-square-foot addition designed by the acclaimed architecture firm OMA, led by Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas, in partnership with Cooper Robertson. This new development will almost double the museum’s gallery space, allowing for a greater display of contemporary art and a more immersive visitor experience.
