The Morgan Library & Museum is a cultural institution in New York City that originated as the private library of financier J. Pierpont Morgan. It opened to the public in 1924 and is located on Madison Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The museum holds an outstanding collection of rare books, manuscripts, drawings, music scores, and historical documents, including works by authors and composers such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as drawings by artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
Architecturally, it combines a historic Italian Renaissance–style library designed by Charles Follen McKim with a modern expansion by Renzo Piano completed in 2006.
Today, the Morgan functions as both a museum and a research library, offering exhibitions, concerts, lectures, and scholarly programs that explore the intersections of literature, music, and visual art.
