In 1961, Isamu Noguchi decided to trade the busy streets of Manhattan for a quieter life in Long Island City, Queens. He moved into a modest, one-story warehouse on the corner of 10th Street and 33rd Road and unlike his previous studio in Greenwich Village, this remote location offered him a peaceful, focused environment with far fewer interruptions. The sprawling 3,200-square-foot warehouse finally gave him the room he needed to dream big and work on a much larger scale. While he continued to travel the globe and set up studios in Italy and Japan, this warehouse remained his main base for over a decade, serving as the place where many of his most famous sculptures were brought to life.
