Dancing the Revolution: From Dancehall to Reggaetón
Step into a world where music, movement, and art collide. Dancing the Revolution transforms the museum into a vibrant, living space filled with the sights and sounds of the Caribbean and beyond.
Explore the work of over 35 artists—including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Isaac Julien, Alberta Whittle, and Carolina Caycedo—who bring the energy of Kingston and San Juan to the global stage. Together, they celebrate the deep, bass-heavy heart of dancehall culture and show us how movement can be a powerful act of freedom.
A special highlight of the show focuses on San Juan’s 2019 “perreo combativo,” a moment when reggaetón moved from the dance floor to the streets to become a bold tool for political protest.
More than anything, this exhibition reminds us that these rhythms can’t be held back. They carry deep histories of both struggle and celebration, rooted in the Black Atlantic and reimagined by every new generation.
