Welcome to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago, one of the largest spaces in the world dedicated to the art of right now. Since 1967, we’ve built a reputation for being “experimental by design,” a spirit that led us to host the very first major U.S. museum shows for legends like Frida Kahlo and Jeff Koons.
Our home is just as bold as the art inside.
Designed by Josef Paul Kleihues and opened in 1996, the building features a striking limestone facade that nods to the historic Water Tower nearby. When you visit, be sure to take a look at our famous elliptical staircase—it’s a true architectural icon and a favorite for visitors.
