Exhibition Highlights
We are thrilled to welcome Loie Hollowell (1983, California) back to the UK for her first London exhibition since 2018. Her new show, Overview Effect, features a series of striking abstract paintings that translate the intense, physical sensations of childbirth into a vivid visual experience.
This latest collection represents an exciting shift in Loie’s perspective, exploring how our awareness changes during life’s most profound moments. The exhibition comes to London following her first major ten-year retrospective, Space Between, which debuted at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut in 2024 before traveling to the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2025.
For over a decade, Loie has used geometric shapes and glowing colors to map what she calls the “bodily landscape.” Her work is deeply personal, turning her own physical and emotional experiences into universal symbols. While her last London show focused on the theme of conception, her more recent work dives into the journey of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Through rhythmic patterns and soft, pulsing colors, she captures the incredible transformations of the body in a way that is both intimate and powerful.
