Exhibition Highlights
Step into a world of light and shadow at the Bourse de Commerce.
Inspired by the ideas of Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben, the exhibition "Clair-obscur" brings together about one hundred works from the Pinault Collection. We’ve transformed our galleries into a striking landscape that shifts between bright glow and soft twilight, inviting you to discover these artworks through a captivating play of light.
The show takes its name from "chiaroscuro," a famous painting technique that emerged in the 16th century. You might know it best from the dramatic works of Caravaggio, who used sharp rays of light to cut through deep darkness, creating a sense of tension and soul-searching. This tradition continued with Goya, who used shadows to explore the more mysterious sides of human nature.
Today, this fascination with light and dark still shapes modern art. You’ll see it in Sigmar Polke’s immersive work, Axial Age (2005-2007), which feels like a dream-like chapel. Join us for a journey through these contrasts and see how they continue to add depth and mystery to the art of our time.
