Contemporary Art, PhotoExhibition Highlights
Martin Parr (1952 – 2025) was an English documentary photographer and photojournalist best known for his sharp, witty, and often unsettling observations of everyday life. He was known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical and anthropological look at aspects of modern life, in particular documenting the social classes of England, and more broadly the wealth of the Western world.
We invite you to the Jeu de Paume for a vibrant exhibition celebrating Parr’s legendary career. Moving away from the usual grim images of environmental crisis, Parr uses bold colors and offbeat perspectives to look at our complicated relationship with the planet. Through his lens, you’ll explore everything from the chaos of mass tourism to our obsession with plastic. With a style that is both funny and surprisingly tender, he paints a lively portrait of our globalized world, encouraging us to laugh at—and think about—the contradictions of our times.
This exhibition spans fifty years of Parr’s work, bringing together his most famous series from the late 1970s to the present day. Having traveled to every corner of the globe, Parr created a striking body of work that highlights both the absurdities and the inequalities of modern life. It is a colorful, thought-provoking journey through five decades of a world that is as messy as it is fascinating.
