Exhibition Highlights

Leonora Carrington was far more than just an artist. She was a feminist, a pioneering environmentalist, a mother, and a traveler who navigated both the physical world and the depths of her own mind. Her life—shaped by her spiritual search and personal resilience—left behind a legacy that is as radical as it is inspiring.

Born in Lancashire in 1917, Leonora’s identity was forged through her many travels. Her journey took her from the galleries of Florence and Paris to the landscapes of Southern France and Spain, finally leading her to Mexico, where she became a legendary figure. These experiences fueled her unique creative voice, blending surrealism with ancient myths and the mysterious world of the esoteric.

This exhibition introduces you to Carrington as a "Vitruvian Woman": a complete artist who found perfect harmony in innovation. In her work, you’ll find a world where the boundaries between human and animal, or masculine and feminine, simply melt away, creating a universe where every symbol tells a story of transformation.

Through a journey across her life and most famous themes, we explore what moved her: from her teenage discovery of Italian Renaissance art to her Celtic heritage and her time with the Surrealists in France. We invite you to step into the visionary world of a perpetual traveler who never stopped searching for the truth about herself.
