"Universe of Water Particles" is one of teamLab's most recognized works, first created in 2013. The piece simulates a massive waterfall using hundreds of thousands of individual water particles, each calculated in real time according to the laws of fluid dynamics. Rather than playing back pre-recorded video, the work continuously computes the behavior of water as it flows over a virtual three-dimensional rock surface, with each particle tracing its own unique path. The result is a towering cascade of light that is never the same twice.

The installation invites viewers to stand directly before or within the projected waterfall. When a person approaches, the flow of water particles responds — splitting around the viewer's silhouette as if encountering a real physical obstacle. This interactivity reinforces teamLab's core belief that art should be a dynamic environment shaped by the people who experience it. The work has become a signature piece, appearing in major exhibitions and permanent installations worldwide.
