Juan Uslé. That Ship on the Mountain
November 26, 2025 – April 20, 2026
Join us for That Ship on the Mountain, a warm celebration of Juan Uslé’s (Santander, 1954) remarkable forty-year journey in art. This major retrospective marks a special homecoming for the Santander-born artist, returning to the Museo Reina Sofía twenty years after his first solo show here, Open Rooms.
Set across eleven rooms on the first floor of the Nouvel Building, the exhibition doesn’t follow a strict timeline. Instead, it unfolds like a captivating short story, full of twists, turns, and personal memories. You’ll discover how Uslé’s paintings connect with his other creative passions, especially through his "Notes"—a heartfelt collection of color experiments, photographs, and writings titled Notes on SQR (I dreamt you were developing).
These daily records offer an intimate peek into his world, capturing everything from quiet studio hours and family life to his many travels, showing how his art and life are beautifully intertwined.
