Exhibition Highlights
Welcome Kathia St. Hilaire to Perrotin Paris for her first solo exhibition in France, The Vocals Of The Chaotic Burst. Kathia’s incredible work blends printmaking, painting, collage, and weaving into surfaces you can almost feel. She builds each piece through a meticulous process, layering dozens of different prints from hand-carved blocks to create something truly vibrant and deep.
In this collection, Kathia explores the powerful, often-hidden history of Haiti, the island her parents called home before moving to the United States. She shares stories that span from the days of French colonialism to the lively spirit of the diaspora communities where she grew up. By mixing historical facts with the legendary tales of Haiti’s leaders, she creates a style she calls “magical realism.” You’ll notice her art is full of everyday surprises—she uses everything from banknotes and banana stickers to product packaging and old car tires to show how different cultures weave together.
With their raw, woven edges, these pieces remind us that the story of the Haitian revolution isn't just a thing of the past—it’s an ongoing journey. These dreamlike pictures invite us to look at where we’ve been, where we are now, and the many possibilities for the future.
