Exhibition Highlights

Following its exploration of the vital roles played by women from Europe’s royal houses during the 16th and 17th centuries, the third edition of The Female Perspective shifts its focus to the 18th century. This installment examines the legacy of Queen Isabella Farnese (1692–1766), one of the most influential patrons involved in the formation of the Museo del Prado’s collections.

Isabella Farnese’s collection—comprising nearly a thousand paintings, more than a third of which now form a cornerstone of the Prado’s holdings—was among the most distinguished of her era. This exhibition route features masterpieces by celebrated artists such as Velázquez, Ribera, Murillo, and Rubens, alongside an exceptional group of classical sculptures. The program is dedicated to the recovery, study, and celebration of her extraordinary artistic vision and enduring legacy.
