White Cube Gallery is one of the most influential contemporary art galleries in London—and globally. Founded: 1993 by Jay Jopling
Focus: Cutting-edge contemporary art, often associated with the Young British Artists (YBAs) movement.
White Cube played a key role in launching and consolidating the careers of artists like Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, Marc Quinn, Gilbert & George, and many others. It helped define the “white cube” exhibition aesthetic—clean, minimal spaces that put total focus on the artwork.
White Cube Bermondsey is its flagship London space: a vast former warehouse complex with multiple galleries, a bookshop, auditorium, and archive. It’s one of the largest commercial gallery spaces in the world.
